3. How We Use Your Information

MFF uses your personal information only for the following purposes:

We process donations and issue receipts as a matter of contractual necessity when you choose to support our work. Where applicable, we provide tax exemption certificates as required by law. When you register for any of our events or programmes, we use your information to fulfil that registration — again as a contractual obligation between us.

From time to time, we send updates about MFF's programmes, festivals, and initiatives, which we do on the basis of legitimate interest or, where required, with your explicit consent. When you write to us with a query or grievance, we use your information to respond — a legitimate operational need. We also use aggregated and anonymised data to improve Website functionality and user experience, which serves our legitimate interest in maintaining a useful and accessible platform.

Finally, we use your information where necessary to comply with legal and regulatory requirements under Indian law, and to prevent fraud and ensure the security of our systems and your data — both of which constitute legitimate interests that we are obligated to protect.

We do not use your personal information for commercial marketing, advertising, or sale to third parties.

4. Sharing of Information

MFF does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

4.1 Service Providers

We engage trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Website and delivering our programmes, including:

  • Payment gateway providers

  • Email communication and newsletter platforms

  • Event registration and management tools

  • Website hosting and analytics providers

These providers are contractually bound to use your data only for the specified purpose and to maintain appropriate security standards.

4.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MFF, its beneficiaries, or the public.

4.3 Partner Organisations

For jointly organised events (e.g., Ajoo Gooja with Bikaner District Administration, Rajasthan Kabir Yatra with District Administration Bikaner), limited information may be shared with co-organisers solely for event management purposes, with appropriate safeguards.

4.4 Consent

With your explicit consent, we may share your testimonial, photograph, or experience for publication on our Website, social media, publications, or reports.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law, whichever is longer:

  • Donation records and tax certificates: 7 years (as required under Indian tax and company law)

  • Event registration data: 2 years from the date of the event

  • Newsletter and mailing list data: Until you unsubscribe

  • Website usage / analytics data: 12 months

  • Correspondence and grievance records: 3 years

After the applicable retention period, your data is securely deleted or anonymised.

6. Security of Your Data

MFF takes the security of your personal data seriously. We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, including:

  • SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmitted through the Website

  • Restricted access to personal data on a need-to-know basis

  • Regular review of data handling practices

  • Secure, password-protected systems for data storage

While we take all reasonable precautions, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your rights, MFF will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by applicable law.

7. Cookies

Our Website uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — to enhance your browsing experience and understand how visitors use our site.

We use three types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies are required for the Website to function correctly, including basic operations such as form submissions and session management. These cannot be disabled without affecting core functionality.

  • Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our Website — for example, which pages are visited most frequently. We use tools such as Google Analytics for this purpose.

  • Preference cookies remember your settings and preferences, such as language or display options, so you do not have to re-enter them on each visit.

You can manage or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain parts of the Website. We do not use cookies for targeted advertising or commercial profiling of any kind.

8. Your Rights

  • Right to Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

  • Right to Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.

Some of MFF's programmes — including Ajoo Gooja Children's Festival and Project Lokdhun — involve children. Where personal data of minors (below 18 years) is collected for event registration or documentation, MFF obtains prior written consent from the parent or legal guardian. Photographs or footage of children are used only with explicit parental consent and only for MFF's stated non-commercial purposes.

MFF does not knowingly collect personal data from children through unsupervised online channels.

10. Social Media and Third-Party Platforms

MFF maintains a presence on social media platforms including Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. If you interact with MFF on these platforms, your interactions are governed by those platforms' own privacy policies, which MFF does not control.

If you share MFF content or tag MFF on social media, you consent to public visibility on those platforms. MFF is not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party platform.

11. Newsletter and Communications

If you have subscribed to MFF's newsletter or communications, we will send you updates about our programmes, festivals, events, and initiatives. You may unsubscribe at any time by:

Unsubscribing from marketing communications does not affect communications related to a programme you have registered for or a donation you have made.

12. Changes to This Policy

MFF reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. Material changes will be notified on the Website with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Website after the revised Policy is posted constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
